Lisa K. Johnson, Ph.D.

I am a Senior Scientist in Applied Bioinformatics at 10x Genomics, where I provide bioinformatics software support for researchers analyzing data generated by single-cell and spatial technologies.

I earned my Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Physiology, with a designated emphasis in Biotechnology, from UC Davis in 2019, co-advised by Dr. C. Titus Brown and Dr. Andrew Whitehead. My doctoral work focused on developing and standardizing bioinformatics workflows for large datasets from multiple non-traditional model species. Along the way, I became particularly interested in teaching biologists the bioinformatics and data science skills they needed to conduct their research.

Before UC Davis, I worked as a bioinformatics programmer at NYU Langone's Genome Technology Center. Earlier in my career, I spent several years in marine field ecology, including four years at HBOI-FAU with the Robertson Coral Reef Program studying coral and zooxanthellae gene expression, shoreline mangrove restoration, and two years in the Peace Corps working on coral ecosystems in Micronesia.

I hold a B.S. in Biochemistry with a minor in Music from Eckerd College, an M.S. in Biology from UNC Wilmington, advised by Steve Kinsey, and an M.S. in Environmental Resource Management from Florida Institute of Technology, completed while working at the FL DEP Indian River Lagoon Aquatic Preserve.
